A call for policy coherence across the UN

Ahead of the UN General Assembly and Summit of the Future, GYV wrote to the United Nations Secretary-General calling for stronger policy coherence and protection from tobacco industry interference across the UN system.

The letter connected tobacco control with sustainable development, environmental policy, youth interests, and institutional integrity. It warned against allowing tobacco companies to gain influence or legitimacy through sustainability, ESG or extended producer responsibility initiatives.

This marked an important expansion of GYV's governance agenda beyond traditional tobacco control institutions: tobacco industry interference is a cross-system governance problem, not only a health-sector issue.
