Conflict of Interest Statement
Global Youth Voices is a youth movement convened by the Global Center for Good Governance in Tobacco Control (GGTC), bringing together youth organizations, youth coalitions, and young advocates working to protect public health from tobacco industry interference.
Consistent with Article 5.3 of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control, GYV recognizes that there is a fundamental and irreconcilable conflict between public health interests and tobacco industry interests. GYV does not engage with the tobacco industry or with entities and individuals furthering the interests of the tobacco industry.
GYV may require individuals, organizations, partners, contributors, or participants seeking to engage with its activities to declare any actual, potential, or perceived conflict of interest. GYV and/or GGTC reserves the right to refuse or exclude participation in GYV activities, campaigns, consultations, events, or platforms where involvement with the tobacco industry or alignment with tobacco industry interests may compromise the independence, credibility, or safety of the movement.
For the purpose of this statement, “entities furthering the interests of the tobacco industry” may include, but are not limited to:
entities and subsidiaries engaged in the manufacturing, distribution, marketing, promotion, or sale of tobacco, nicotine, or tobacco-related products;
entities working to further the interests of the tobacco industry through lobbying, advertising, public relations, legal advice, research, consultancy, or similar activities;
entities funded, supported, influenced, or governed by tobacco-related entities;
entities with tobacco industry representatives among their members, leadership, advisers, funders, or partners; and
individuals or organizations whose interests, activities, or affiliations may create actual, potential, or perceived conflicts with public health and tobacco control objectives.
This commitment helps ensure that youth participation in tobacco control remains independent, credible, and protected from tobacco industry influence.
