Youth demands participate in global plastics negotiation

We joined youth and environmental partners in calling on INC-5.2 negotiators to ban cigarette filters, protect environmental policymaking from tobacco industry interference, and strengthen liability for tobacco-related plastic pollution. A UNEP-hosted opening plenary intervention brought the GYV demands into the INC-5.2 negotiations.
Youth demands participate in global plastics negotiation

During the INC-5.2 negotiations for a global plastics treaty in Geneva, GYV joined youth and environmental partners in calling for action on tobacco-related plastic pollution.

The open letter called for a plastics treaty aligned with the WHO FCTC, an immediate ban on cigarette filters, protection of environmental policymaking from tobacco industry interference, and stronger industry accountability.

GYV's demands were subsequently brought into the official INC-5.2 website by UNEP.

The milestone demonstrated how GYV's agenda connects health, plastics, environmental governance, polluter pays, corporate accountability, and future generations.
